  Greetings from the CEO

Al BallesterosDear Friends,

The Center for Community Health (CCH) in Downtown Los Angeles is now open.  From its 21,000 square feet of new clinical space, a responsive community-based medical approach is guaranteed to our community’s poorest and sickest residents. (Please view our slide show, below)

CCH was more than six years in the making and responds to the needs of Skid Row residents.  It was designed and delivers medical care in a new way with one record, one medical chart and with an integrated team that is centered on patient care.  The services include medical, dental and vision care, HIV treatment and support services, case management, mental health, substance abuse services, pharmacy, assistance with acquiring public benefits and access to housing.

This dream was made possible by The Weingart Foundation and their foundation partners.  From their substantial investments in the Skid Row Homeless Healthcare Initiative to the funding of the bricks and mortar of CCH, The Weingart Foundation has partnered with us, Los Angeles County and the community to propel the area’s health response forward.  The Weingart’s large investments were coupled with the substantial support of our County and its various departments with whom we work in partnership on the patient care delivery side.  Our County, under the leadership of our Board of Supervisors is to be commended for investing in a service system which is new and different and that has such promise for tremendous outcomes.  We at JWCH are proud to be so closely associated with Los Angeles County and the leadership of its various departments.

There are many to thank:  Among these are Congresswoman Lucille-Roybal Allard, the JWCH Board of Directors, The Weingart Center Association and their Board of Directors, all of the generous donors and you.  For those who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, please know that your presence and interest in our work is very meaningful to our agency, our partners, employees and patients.

CCH requires on-going support from our federal, state and local partners; foundations and the private giving community.  I respectfully ask for your support for our agency and any contributions you may be able to provide to this project now and in the future.  All of the care in CCH is provided free of charge for those without medical insurance and whom lack financial resources.  This is our mission.

If you were not able to attend the opening, please let us know and we can arrange a tour for you to see the center.  We’d be happy to make these arrangements.

Once again, thank you to all those who were involved.

Sincerely yours,

Al Ballesteros, MBA
Chief Executive Officer
