Dear Friends,
This year John Wesley Community Health (JWCH
Institute) will celebrate 50 years of providing services
to residents of Los Angeles County. We are planning
a very special night, with very special friends and we
respectfully request your attendance.
Fifty years is a huge milestone for our community health
center which provides medical services to primarily
homeless and uninsured men, women and children
regardless of their ability to pay for care. In 1960
physicians at the John Wesley County Hospital formed
an attending staff association to acquire small grants
to augment their work in the hospital. They were all
visionary in their thinking, but perhaps never imagined
that the need for the growth and expansion of JWCH as
a safety-net medical provider would be so great today.
Since our humble beginnings, JWCH has undergone
several phases of growth. Today we operate seven
primary care facilities, two recuperative care program
sites, two mobile medical vans, Project 50 and
four reproductive healthcare sites in LA County run
facilities. Last year, we opened the Center for
Community Health in Skid Row which is the first fully
integrated, comprehensive health center for uninsured
and homeless men and women in Los Angeles County.
Our main honoree for the evening is the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors. Their steadfast
commitment to medical services for the needy and
their support of JWCH programs warrants this very
special recognition. Our beginnings stem back to
physicians forming an association in a county hospital
and today, we continue to work side-by-side the County
in numerous important community projects.
We respectfully request your attendance and sponsorship
of this event. It will be a splendid evening with original
piano composed musical scores, a wonderful dinner
and recognitions.
